Respite for carers of the elderly and people living with memory loss or dementia. Day centre respite attracts clients from the Hornsby and
Ku-ring-gai local government areas; the overnight cottage respite is available to clients and carers across all of Northern Sydney. Our flexible services include a range of day programs and short-stay (up to three nights) respite options. To better meet the changing needs of respite services, Chantal Cottage’s programs have been designed to be accessible, inclusive and structured.
OUR HEALTH AND WELLNESS FOCUS
We focus on healthy ageing and wellness, including activities to enhance mobility, nutrition, mental dexterity, social inclusion and independence. Clients receiving personal care and continence management are supervised and monitored closely.
Staff at the cottage organise in-house programs such as discussion groups, a structured exercise routine, table/board games, quizzes and music appreciation. Our daily group exercise programs focus on falls-prevention. The classes are informative and fun. There will be some instances where staff will organise group outings to local parks, art galleries and lunches.
At Chantal Cottage we are experienced in supporting both the carer’s and the client’s needs through flexible services. We work closely with carers to ensure the care experience is more personal and comfortable for their loved ones.
We are also available to assist clients and their carers with direct support by offering them information on a range of other services provided by Catholic Healthcare’s Community Services, including home support/care, and health and wellbeing services.
Overnight and short-stay respite
Overnight and short stay respite operates from 3:00pm Thursday to 2:30pm Sunday. Costs for overnight respite: $39 per night.
Overnight respite allows carers to take a breather from their caring roles from one to three nights. Personal or familiar items that may make the stay more comfortable are welcome. However, we request you do not bring valuables.
Please ensure sufficient clothing, toiletries and continence aids required are provided for the duration of the stay. All pill/tablet/pillule medication must be in a Webster (or blister) Pack and accompanied by a completed medication form and patient health summary from your GP. Your Patient Health Summary outlines and provides instructions on medications, including ad-hoc (PRN) medications, creams, puffers, inhalers or drops to be administered.
Day centre respite
Chantal Cottage operates Monday to Friday, from 10:00 am
to 3:00 pm. Costs for day respite: $15 per day.
Costs include morning and afternoon tea, nutritious lunches and centre-based activities. Outings will be advised in advance and we endeavour to keep these additional costs minimal. Centre-based bus transport, before and after
operating hours, may be available subject to client ability, location and seating availability. Cost of bus transport is $2.50 each way. No one will be at a disadvantage due to lack of contribution.
