Amana Living Club Lefroy in Bull Creek offers short day respite for people living with dementia. The club is open from Monday to Friday.
Keeping people with dementia engaged and active, both socially and physically, is an important aspect of life at Amana Living. Participating in a social group program and meeting people who are experiencing the same challenges can lead to empowerment and personal growth. Equally important is providing respite for carers, giving them time to re-energise and have time for their own activities.
At Amana Living Day Clubs, people of all ages living with dementia can enjoy outings safely with a high ratio of skilled staff, engaging with the community and activities they enjoyed before diagnosis. These may include trips to museums and art galleries, and walking in country parks or along the river foreshore.
In the Day Club, they enjoy quizzes, games that get them up and moving, sing-alongs, art and crafts, gardening, computer or iPad activities, or just time to share a yarn or two with each other. There is a weekly men’s group, and a program for younger people living with early-onset dementia. Day Club staff look at each individual client’s needs and aim to provide activities that are meaningful to them. A meal is provided and the clients are well supported and cared for.
The clubs offer a social program that families can enjoy too. Several special occasions are celebrated each year, such as Christmas in July or Australia Day, where the whole family is invited.
Our day club staff are skilled and experienced in dementia care, and they love what they do. On going assessment is provided and we liaise closely with other services to ensure needs of clients and carers are met. So families and carers can relax with peace of mind, knowing that their loved one is in very good hands.
