Rewarding the best innovation in age-friendly housing

Builders, designers and architects who have produced the best ‘age-friendly’ housing are to be recognised as a part of the Master Builders Australia 2007 National Lifestyle Housing for Seniors Award.

The Minister for Ageing, Christopher Pyne, has invited people in the Australian building industry to nominate innovative projects that help develop the future of seniors housing.

“With Australia’s ageing population, adaptable housing that can be modified at minimal cost to suit the changing needs of residents is increasingly important,” Mr Pyne said.

“This year marks the seventh time that the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing has joined forces with Master Builders Australia and sponsored this award.

“The Australian Government recognises the vital importance of the link between the built environment and Australia’s ageing population.

“Good housing and urban design can play a significant role in allowing older Australians to age in place and remain active,” he said.

Nominations for the award close on 24 August, with winners to be announced on Saturday, 10 November, at the 2007 National Building and Construction Awards to be held at the Gold Coast.
