New aged care facility in Collie, WA

Posted
by DPS

The Australian and Western Australian governments have committed almost $10 million to ensure that a new residential aged care facility is built in Collie, in south-west WA.

The new community operated aged care centre will have 64 beds providing both high care and low care and a level of service not currently available to Collie’s seniors.

The WA government has provided land adjacent to the Collie Hospital for the new home, which will provide more suitable accommodation for up to 30 aged care patients now being cared for at the hospital.

The two governments had previously made a significant financial commitment to the new facility but it faced escalating building costs. Now each government has agreed to provide an extra $620,000.

The new facility would cost some $12.1 million, with the Australian Government providing around $5 million of this total, and the WA government contributing $4.6 million. The aged care provider will finance the remainder of the construction costs.

The aged care centre will be constructed and managed by the community based operators, and is expected to be completed and operational by late 2008.
