Queensland communities raise $195K for Blue Care

Blue Care’s What Do You Remember? campaign saw just more than $195,000 in donations by the end of last month, and the not for profit organisation is now asking for Queensland’s support to help it reach its $300,000 goal in the next two weeks.

The campaign is raising funds for Blue Care’s memory support services and other programs to help ensure the organisation can continue to make memories with its care in the future.

Kathie Kelly, Blue Care’s corporate partnerships and fundraising manager, said the What Do You Remember? campaign encourages people to reflect on Blue Care’s support through the past.

Blue Care supports one in 30 Queenslanders through vital care services, and around half of those interactions are related to people living with dementia.

“We’re grateful for the community support we’ve had in generating the current campaign results, and it would be a great achievement to reach the $300,000 goal,” Ms Kelly said.

Dementia is reportedly one of the major reasons why older people enter residential aged care or seek assistance from community care programs.

The number of Australians living with dementia is estimated to triple to about 900,000 by 2050.

Blue Care supports clients and residents living with dementia across 80 locations through ongoing care programs.

Some locations have special features such as dementia specific accommodation or sensory gardens, including the one at Blue Care Coopers Plains Respite Care in Brisbane where clients can relax in a secure environment whilst enjoying traditional plantings and water features.

“Blue Care supports those with memory loss by investing in research, building dementia specific accommodation and where possible, unique programs that encourage people to reminisce and remember,” Ms Kelly said.

“Further dementia research, increased support in rural, remote and regional areas and refurbishments of buildings are some of the ventures planned with our donations in the coming year.”
