PresCare’s Kingsford Terrace officially opened
Queensland’s newest luxury retirement living complex, the $100 million Kingsford Terrace, officially opened its first stage on what would have been Sir Charles Kingsford Smith’s 119th birthday.
Residents have already moved into stage one of the five-stage development being built by aged care provider PresCare on the site of the former Hopetoun nursing home in Corinda.
Stage One’s Litchfield building was completed late last year, with 34 spacious one, two and three-bedroom apartments.
PresCare chief executive Greg Skelton says work will soon commence on stage two of the facility, which will feature a large community centre.
“The community centre was originally planned to be built later in the project,” says Mr Skelton, “But we really wanted to create a sense of belonging and community right from the start, so we decided to bring forward its construction.”
Brisbane’s Woollam Constructions have been awarded the $21 million contract to build stage two, which will also include 30 balcony apartments.
“We have designed these apartments to ensure the seniors living at Kingsford Terrace don’t have to downsize too much,” says Mr Skelton.
“Many of the homes in the surrounding suburbs like Graceville, St Lucia and Indooroopilly are quite large homes.
“We wanted to ensure that if a resident was moving from a spacious three or four bedroom home, that they were still able to enjoy the feeling of space in their new apartment at Kingsford Terrace,” he says.
Kingsford Terrace is named after legendary Queensland aviator Sir Charles Kingsford Smith.
When complete, the development will include a fully equipped gym and heated indoor pool, beauty salon, communal gardens and café.
