Building local expertise in aged care nursing

As an aged care provider, Bupa is keen to invest in the aged care workforce. Estimates suggest the number of aged care workers will need to grow by 500,000 over the next 40 years to meet the needs of our ageing population.

As an aged care provider, Bupa is keen to invest in the aged care workforce. Estimates suggest the number of aged care workers will need to grow by 500,000 over the next 40 years to meet the needs of our ageing population.

In response, Bupa has introduced the Graduate Nurse Program. Now in its fourth year, the Graduate Program attracts exceptional nursing talent, increasing the opportunities for those considering senior clinical and management roles within the aged care industry.

The September intake marks the beginning of Bupa’s new relationship with one of Australia’s top universities, the University of Queensland.

Eighteen graduates have been selected for the Graduate Nurse Program, joining the team at Bupa care homes in Ballina, Bendigo, Berry, Cardiff, Merrimac, Narwee, New Farm, North Rocks, South Hobart, South Morang, Tamworth, Toowoomba and Tumut.

Jenna Beaumont is one of successful graduates, joining the team at Bupa Tumut in the Riverina Region of New South Wales.

“Aged care nursing has always been an area of interest for me since I began my university studies. When people ask me what area of nursing I work in, I am so proud to reply with aged care,” Ms Beaumont said.

“It is an area of nursing that is always evolving. I am passionate about caring for the elderly to increase knowledge and services for aged care in the future. It is so important to care for the residents in a way you would care for your own family.”

Nurses are awarded a Certificate in Aged Care Management on completion of the 18 month program. The graduates are also offered the opportunity to commence a three year post graduate certificate in aged care, funded by Bupa.
