SA Seniors Card holders get creative
International Day of Older Persons 2017 is just around the corner on Sunday, October 1 and to celebrate, South Australia is once again hosting their annual ‘Through the Lens’ photographic competition and exhibition
Organised by the State’s Office for the Ageing, the annual event aims to showcase and celebrate the skills and creativity of older South Australians and coincides with this years theme: ‘Stepping into the Future: Tapping the Talents, Contribution and Participation of Older Persons in Society’.
Entries are open from now, until Friday, August 25 with an exhibition of shortlisted photos held at the City Library throughout October with Minister for Ageing Zoe Bettison launching the exhibition on Wednesday October 4, where the winners of each category will be announced.
“Through the Lens is a wonderful opportunity for Seniors Card members to share photos that they have taken, that reflect their lives and interests,” Minister Bettison says.
“Age is no barrier to creative expression and as this popular annual competition shows, there are avenues through which senior South Australians can learn new skills, develop new interests and discover new ways to express their individuality.”
The six categories available to enter into are: Landscape, Seniors in Action, Nature, Artistic Photography, Portrait and People’s Choice.
All finalists and winners will receive a large ready-to-hang framed print of their photo, while the People’s Choice vote will win an iPad, and the overall winner will receive a custom award and their photo on the cover of the 2018 Seniors Card Discount Directory.
Following last year’s event, Minister Bettison says she is excited for what the 2017 event has to offer.
“I look forward to again seeing South Australia through the eyes and camera lenses of our Seniors Card members,” she says.
Last year the competition attracted more than 400 entries from South Australian seniors.
