Walk-in medical centres given conditional approval in ACT
The Australian Capital Territory (ACT) government says it is acting cautiously to ensure doctors’ groups are not put offside when it establishes walk-in medical centres, managed by nurses.
The Australian Medical Association and the ACT Division of General Practice have given conditional support to the proposed centres.
Health Minister, Katy Gallagher says she has received 26 submissions from the community about the walk-in centres, all of which are broadly supportive.
Ms Gallagher says the medical groups asked her to ensure the centres do not threaten general practice.
The Health Minister says nurses will only be allowed to provide specific services agreed to by doctors.
