Too many doctors, not enough nurses on new Health and Hospitals Reform
The Australian Nursing Federation (ANF) has attacked the makeup of the Rudd Government’s new Commission saying that the heavy weighting of the Commission with doctors means the hope of ‘really brave decisions’ needed to shake up the health system, may be lost.
The Commission is headed by a doctor and includes a former Australian Medical Assocation president, a retired professor of medicine and a current dean of medicine. The other members are two former politicians, two consultants, an economist and only one nurse.
ANF assistant federal secretary, Ged Kearney, said that although the members were good individuals, many reform-minded choices were overlooked.
According to the Australian newspaper, doctor’s groups have welcomed the Health and Hospitals Reform make-up.
