Tips to avoid putting on weight from Easter eggs

Posted
by DPS

For those who have just shed the Christmas Kilo’s, Easter time can send the diet back into a spin. An internal survey by Jenny Craig, the
weight management company, has found that 64% of people feel they need to diet after the Easter long weekend.

Karen Inge, a member of Jenny Craig’s Medical Board and leading dietitians says “With Easter eggs appearing in the shops shortly after Christmas chocolate can be very difficult to avoid and can make managing your weight seem impossible. However there are simple ways to avoid stacking on the kilo’s whilst enjoying the Easter break.

Avoid the 4 day chocolate binge – Instead of indulging in chocolate from
Good Friday onwards, keep the chocolate in the cupboard until Easter
Sunday. This way it is more of a treat instead of an ongoing binge!

Choose your chocolate carefully : some chocolate is better for you than others. Dark chocolate has a higher percentage of cacao and has
demonstrated health benefits at suitable levels. Because of this less is
more and you will be satisfied with a small piece instead of a whole
block.

Make your treasure hunt worthwhile – Instead of restricting your Easter
egg hunt to the house or garden why not go to a park and get your heart rate pumping while scouring the parkland for your eggs. This is a great way to exercise and allows you to treat yourself at the end of your run.

Make your Easter lunch a healthy one – To balance out your chocolate
intake ensure your other meals are healthy. Foods such as fresh seafood on the BBQ and fresh salads will ensure you don’t leave the dining table as rounded as an Easter egg and will make sure you are getting the nutrients you require.

Pack healthy snacks for the road – Many Australians travel over the long weekend. Instead of loading the car with junk food pack healthier
options such salad sandwiches, hard boiled eggs, fruit, carrot sticks
and bottled water. Binging on junk food before you reach your destination is not a good start to your weekend!

“The key to the Easter break is not to starve your self of treats but to
ensure the treats you have are the healthiest alternatives. Sticking to
these options will make you happier at the end of the weekend and make you even more content the next time you jump on the scales!”
