Southern Cross Care commits to NT project

The NT Government has announced that Southern Cross Care will be the providers of a new 65 single room residential aged care facility at the old Waratah’s Oval in

Darwin
.


 

The NT Government has made the old Waratah’s Oval available to the not-for-profit organisation for work to begin early next year.

 


In January this year the Federal Government announced $6.3 million funding for the seniors’ accommodation to help build the facility.

 


Southern Cross Care will commit a further $10.78 million to establish the residential care facility.

 


Aged care is a Commonwealth responsibility however, the Northern Territory Government was supporting older Territorians with increased funding to Aged and Disability Services by 74 per cent over the past three years.

 


The facility, with stage one expected to be completed by February 2010, includes: 65 bed Residential
Care Facility (stage 1); 36 unit, four-storey serviced apartment building; village social
and community centre; 65 independent living unit retirement village; and five units for staff accommodation.
