No go for Victorian aged-care redevelopment

Victoria’s Swan Hill hospital officials are devastated by news they have missed out on federal funds to redevelop its hospital and aged-care facilities.

The ABC yesterday reported the city’s public aged-care facilities are recognised as among the “worst” in Victoria.

The hospital had hoped for $10 million to replace the aged-care facility but had applied for $35 million to complete the full hospital and aged-care redevelopment.

According to chief executive officer, Ted Rayment, the funding application did not meet the necessary criteria.

“This is a major blow for us,” Mr Rayment told the ABC.

“The redevelopment would have, as a highest priority, enabled us to put an aged-care facility on the Anglican Church agenda.

“We were hoping the Commonwealth would have said perhaps we can’t support the $35 million but we recognise your current aged-care facility is one of the worst in the state,” he said.
