New aged care facility caters for contemporary living
Goodwin Aged Care Service’s newest facility, The Central, seeks to cater for residents wishing maintain an active and contemporary lifestyle whilst in care.

Goodwin Aged Care Services Chief Executive Officer Sue Levy says the development, located in Crace, Australian Central Territory (ACT), has “raised the bar” for senior living.
“The idea behind The Central was to create housing options that met the needs of contemporary seniors and would adapt as their needs changed over time, while offering easy access to services and the surrounding community.
“The Village concept provides additional social supports within a community of like-minded people, where declining mobility doesn’t lead to social isolation, or where seniors are supported in continuing active, independent lifestyles.”
Last week, ACT Minister for Veterans and Seniors Gordon Ramsey officially opened the seniors living complex, which offers apartments and townhouses with lifestyle supports and facilities.
“Facilities such as this, which provide areas to stay fit and healthy, areas to congregate and provide support to those who need a little extra help, are a great addition to the fabric of Canberra,” Mr Ramsey says.
“I hope we can continue to build a city where seniors are an included and integral part of the city – if not, we will miss the opportunity of fully engaging one of the largest, most educated generation of social innovators in the nation’s history.
“I am looking forward to continuing to hear the stories of the way that this particular facility – its residents, its staff, its volunteers, its broader community – continue to enhance the way in which people live.”
The Central, which was designed by Canberra based AMC Architecture, includes a lifestyle club, gym, business centre, library, spacious lounge and croquet green. Residents will also have access to a lifestyle coordinator on site.
