Make your enviro issues heard
It is important seniors across the globe make their voices heard when it comes to the environmental issues affecting them. In the lead-up to Brazil’s United Nations Conference in June, Council on the Ageing (COTA) is calling on people aged 55 years and over to think about environmental issues.
It is important seniors across the globe make their voices heard when it comes to the environmental issues affecting them.
In the lead-up to Brazil’s United Nations Conference in June, Council on the Ageing (COTA) is calling on people aged 55 years and over to think about environmental issues.
COTA encourages people over the aged of 55 years to complete a 29-question survey to widen involvement by seeking views on the environmental issues of primary concern and sharing ideas of tackling these concerns.
According to COTA, evidence shows some older people in certain regions can be “disproportionately affected by environmental programs such as air pollution, climate change-related heat waves and other natural disasters”.
Urging older people to express their concerns, COTA believes policy-makers will be able to better prepare for the needs of an ageing population.
Other surveys and research reveal there have been “missed opportunities” associated with the lack of closer engagement of the over 55s in general discussions on environmental issues.
Responses to the questionnaire are anonymous and will be used by the research team for this specific program. The survey questionnaire closes on 31 March 2012. Click here to complete the questionnaire.
