Free health service for Perth’s south-east seniors

Seniors in the south east metro area of Perth can now access free health education and monitoring services along with inexpensive podiatry.

Seniors in the south east metro area of Perth can now access free health education and monitoring services along with inexpensive podiatry from Juniper, Western Australia’s not-for-profit accommodation, community care and health services provider for older people.

The Juniper Outreach and Wellness Program delivers services, including health management for a range of chronic health conditions, at no cost to those living in the local government areas of Armadale, Belmont, Canning, Gosnells, Serpentine-Jarrahdale, South Perth and Victoria Park.

Vaughan Harding, Juniper chief executive, said: “This program is helping meet a great and growing need for low cost health services in Perth’s south east.”

Free at home health monitoring is also available from the Outreach and Wellness Program through Juniper’s Telehealth service, for those who meet the criteria. Assisted by their doctor, Telehealth helps people with chronic heart disease, chronic lung disease and/or diabetes to monitor their condition from home to better understand and manage their health to reduce hospital visits.

Juniper community nurse, Janet Anderson, said Juniper’s one on one podiatry, which includes the treatment of problematic nails, corns, calluses and foot related issues plus associated footwear assessment are included in the program.

Sessions cost only $5 per visit to a maximum of $20 per week with no cap on the number of visits. “In addition to providing simple insoles and orthotics we also assess, treat and monitor those with diabetes and deliver foot related wound care in close consultation with your GP, community nurse and health provider,” Ms Anderson said.
