Dose Administration Aids (DAA) Program goes ‘live’
The first professional program to be funded under the Fourth Community Pharmacy Agreement – Dose Administration Aids (DAA) Program – is now ‘live’, with the Pharmacy Readiness Kit available online.
The DAA Program was the result of a fruitful collaboration between the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia, the Pharmacy Guild of Australia and the Department of Health & Ageing.
The aim of the DAA Program is to reduce medication-related hospitalisation and adverse events through improving medication management and adherence for people in the community.
Pharmacists participating in the program will be assisted to provide DAAs to patients who would benefit from the provision of a DAA.
To participate, pharmacists need to meet professional standards and the pharmacy must have the necessary infrastructure to provide the service.
A DAA is an adherence device in which the medications are divided into individual doses and arranged according to the dose schedule throughout the day.
