Centre for healthy and active ageing
Victorian not for profit aged care service provider, Benetas, has welcomed the announcement of the successful bid to commence the International Longevity Centre (ILC) – Australia.
The ILC Global Alliance announced the successful bid, with Benetas one of eleven consortium partners to help support longevity and population ageing in the region and provide greater avenue for global collaboration into the future.
“This represents a terrific opportunity for the region and a chance to work with international stakeholders on significant projects,” says Sandra Hills, Benetas chief executive.
“Benetas is committed to delivering strong outcomes through this process and develop the ILC – Australia to be a worldclass contributor in the international forum,” she adds.
As a consortium partner and leading aged care provider, Benetas can provide detailed industry perspective and work collaboratively with organisations to pursue global partnerships which drive dialogue, understanding and experience sharing.
“Population ageing is a significant global challenge but through partnerships like the ILC, Benetas can ensure we approach this issue with a truly informed understanding of how this will shape our community at home and around the world,” Ms Hills says.
She says the ILC allows Benetas to build on its significant work in the research and policy space and provide key strategic focus going forward.
“From the outset, Benetas recognised the need to seize this opportunity and work with such a strong group of academic partners. The bid has been developed over two long years and it is fantastic to see hard work have a successful outcome on an international scale.
“It was important to provide the support and resources to get this bid off the ground and Benetas remains fully committed pushing this agenda forward even further.”
Ms Hills says the consortium would now work to provide a framework agreement for the new centre and begin its role across a number of important policy areas including healthy, active, productive ageing and support for disadvantaged older people.
The ILC Global Alliance is a multinational consortium of member organisations and provides global communication and opportunity for the sharing of research, policy and knowledge related to an ageing population across countries and cultures.
ILC – Australia represents a new chance to collaborate with local partners and showcase outcomes of benefit to the region and inform, and be informed by the broader global community.
Consortium partners include a range of organisations and provide input from the education, consumer, ageing and community sectors.
