Australian Alcohol Guidelines for low-risk drinking
The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) has released a revised draft of the Australian Alcohol Guidelines for low risk drinking.
NHMRC chief executive officer, Professor Warwick Anderson, said. “We are inviting comment from a wide range of groups and individuals – including health professionals, community groups, professional and educational organisations, policy makers, the general public and those businesses responsible for providing alcohol.
“The revised guidelines are designed to give people an indication of the levels of alcohol consumption that are associated with an increased risk to health and social wellbeing. The aim is to minimise the risk of alcohol-related harm, such as accidents, injuries and disease. The revised guidelines incorporate the most up-to-date evidence.”
The public consultation period closes on 11 December 2007.
