Added relief for youngsters with continence assistance scheme
Youngsters from 5-15 years will be eligible for the Continence Aids Assistance Scheme from July under a new extended scheme announced by the Minister for Ageing, Senator Santo Santoro.
At present, the scheme is restricted to those aged 16 to 64 years with a government subsidy of $470 a year for continence products. The new rules would benefit the parents of disabled children and also continue to assist many older people with incontinence due to neurological conditions such as paraplegia, multiple sclerosis or spina bifida.
“These changes will approximately double the number of Australians who will benefit from the scheme, from around 20,000 each year to 40,000,” Senator Santoro said.
“They will also more than double the cost of the scheme which is currently $12 million a year.”
