MannaCare Community Respite Services

MannaCare provides a variety of services at Grevillea House and Cassia Day Respite for people in need of flexible respite or social support. Located adjacent to Cassia House aged care facility, Grevillea House is a modern, purpose-built, residential style building. It is the base for two services funded under the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP).

Centre-based Day Care provides social support for frail older people and those living with dementia. Groups operate Monday to Saturday. They aim to enhance the quality of life of clients and maintain their social interaction and skills so that they can remain living in their own homes for as long as possible.

Equally important, the groups also aim to support their carers by providing them with flexible respite options funded by the CHSP. A daily fee applies with the cost varying depending on the activity and in accordance with Government guidelines. Assistance with transport is available by assessment.

Overnight Cottage Respite is targeted at supporting carers looking after older people primarily with dementia living in the community.

The service is provided in a purpose designed and built extension to Grevillea House opened in 2007. This extension is styled like a motel and can accommodate up to five people in single rooms with private ensuites.

Flexibility and responsiveness allows clients and carers to plan their respite stay according to their needs. This may be from a single night to a week or more for up to 60 days per year.

Flexible Day Respite aims to support and maintain care relationships between carers and clients through providing good quality respite care for frail older people so that regular carers can take a break.

This support can be provided either in Grevillea House or in the clients own home. Eligible clients must be over the age of 65 years and living in the municipalities of Manningham, Maroondah or Whitehorse.
