Singing to aged care residents
A Christmas Carols event with a Victoria aged are facility, and featuring the National Youth Choir of Australia, is an example of how aged care strives to bring the community and generations together to ensure the residents experience and celebrate the true meaning of Christmas.
The choir delivered all of the Christmas classics to an audience of about 130 BlueCross residents and members of the local community.
BlueCross Springfield residence manager, Marg Alexander, said: “It is a nice feeling to see our residents, their families and local community share such a special evening.”
Visitors to BlueCross Springfield did not hold back in joining the National Youth Choir and residents in singing along all night.
The residents at BlueCross Springfield prepared a live nativities scene for the evening that depicted the birth of baby Jesus.
Also participating in the scene as angelic little angels, were the children of staff and residents’ families.
Ms Alexander said: “The nativities scene is something our residents were very passionate about heading into the evening and I think this showed.
“Almost everyone I spoke to commented on how great [the nativities scene] looked and how enthusiastic our residents were.”

This was one of many events that form part of the leisure and lifestyle program at BlueCross Springfield, which focuses on delivering activities based on residents’ interests.
BlueCross Springfield is a 50 bed modern aged care residence with a strong community feel and a great connection to the City of Whitehorse.
