Plans for integrated health and aged care facility

Western Australian health and aged care provider, Southern Cross Care (WA), plans to develop an integrated health and residential aged care facility at the Kaleeya Hospital site in East Fremantle.

Southern Cross Care (WA) chief executive, Errol Turner, says the site will allow the provider to meet the growing demand for modern aged care services, particularly residential care supported by health services.

“There is a growing need for aged care services in the East Fremantle region,” Mr Turner says.

“Our aim for the site is to provide modern integrated health and wellness services within a residential aged care facility to improve the long-term care and health outcomes for our clients,” he says.

According to Mr Turner, in many instances the elderly “bounce between care facilities and hospitals”, creating significant health issues and deterioration to their overall wellbeing.

“Our plan for an integrated approach is an innovative step forward that provides seamless health and aged care services in one location that will result in better health and care outcomes for the elderly,” he says.

Existing hospital services and patients are being relocated to Fiona Stanley and Fremantle hospitals.
