Make a difference this X’mas

Helping someone – no matter how big or small – is the most valuable gift you can give this Christmas. Benetas, a not for profit aged care provider, who last week launched its 2012 Christmas Appeal, is now asking for donations to make a difference to older people doing it tough this festive season.

Helping someone – no matter how big or small – is the most valuable gift you can give this Christmas.

Benetas, a not for profit aged care provider, who last week launched its 2012 Christmas Appeal, is now asking for donations to make a difference to older people doing it tough this festive season, as well as throughout the year.

Funded entirely by donations, the Benetas Hardship Fund helps Benetas clients, like Colin, who are facing difficult times.

Earlier this year, Colin’s eyesight started to deteriorate so badly that, without surgery, he would go totally blind. For Colin, losing his eyesight meant losing the last of his independence, and his family couldn’t afford surgery for both eyes.

Fortunately, the Benetas Hardship Fund was able to help, and the surgery took place just days after his application had been approved. Colin’s eyesight is now getting stronger by the day.

Sandra Hills, Benetas chief executive, explains the importance of supporting older people in local communities.

“Every now and again, our clients and older people generally need some extra assistance to ensure they are living full and happy lives. The Benetas Hardship fund helps meet this need.

“Older people are often overlooked, so Christmas is the perfect time to show someone you care. A little support can make the world of difference for an older person who is struggling,” Ms Hills says.

One off grants are available to Benetas clients who find themselves in urgent need of financial assistance, who may require the replacement of vital appliances like a fridge or oven, urgent home repairs or medical expenses.

“What you have done for me is terrific,” Colin says. “I’m getting better everyday.”

Support older people by donating to the Benetas Christmas Appeal. A small donation goes a long way towards helping those who need a little bit of extra assistance. Visit Benetas or call (03) 8823 7900 to make a donation.
