What is advocacy?

Advocates and advocacy organisations will advise you on your legal and financial rights and will also lobby government and other organisations on issues which negatively affect older people. These can be anything varying from elder abuse to and ageism in the workplace to homelessness in older people and better healthcare.

Advocacy services are often provided or funded by State and Territory governments, although recently the Commonwealth Government announced funding for older person’s advocacy to be delivered on a national level.
