Set on the edge of Swan Hill, near to the Murray River – the Alcheringa site is bordered by picturesque fruit growing country, dotted with stone fruit and citrus trees.

Located about 90kms from the Respect Cohuna site. Alcheringa is a modern facility built just a decade ago.

75 beds (30 secure dementia units)

Some single rooms have shared ensuites. One respite bed can be booked.

Two main ends – Sunnyside Lodge and Honeybee Lodge. The first is general housing that is divided into three wings. The second, contains the secure dementia units. 

Team Structure

Our team consists of clinical staff and specialists including registered nurses and personal care assistants available on-call, 24 hours a day. A social care team deals with activities and therapy. Team members are passionate, caring and friendly and go above and beyond to build a genuine rapport with residents.

With attention to the complete health and wellbeing of our residents, the services we offer combine specialist care with quality of life. Beyond our standard care offerings, further services accommodate specific needs of residents.

Dedicated specialists like dieticians, podiatrists, optometrists and speech therapists make frequent visits, along with physiotherapists for mobility and pain management. Hairdressers come in weekly and are available by appointment.

Food & Diet

Healthy and balanced meal choices are prepared by a full-time chef throughout the week. On weekends, supporting chefs continue to prepare meals on-site. A variety of meals cater to resident’s preferences and dietary requirements, with Alcheringa having a distinct Mediterranean flair. The menu is updated twice a year, with a summer and winter menu, and fresh food arrives throughout the week.

Activities & Excursions

Entertainment is coordinated by the leisure and lifestyle team who look after events and activities that are planned over a social calendar. Our proximity to the city centre means we’re quite involved in the community. Trips to nearby points of interest including art galleries are convenient with dedicated bus and vehicle options.
