At Zion, family and friends are always welcome. We encourage links with the wider community through regular day trips and in-house programs, such as a digital storytelling project, which was a collaboration between residents and students at Clayfield College.
Lifestyle programs are responsive to residents’ interests and include activities such as pottery classes, choirs, reminiscence groups, dance classes and more. An arts therapy program is a recent addition to the schedule. Residents have also set up their own interest groups, including a gardening and cooking club and, for keen knitters, the ‘Zion Knit Wits’.
A complete kitchen revamp has meant Zion’s dining options are restaurant quality. The smell of roasting meat and baking bread regularly greet residents who order ‘live’ from an iPad in the inviting dining room.
“At Zion we are working towards a ‘supported wellness’ service model, designed to help residents maintain independence for as long as possible. Central to this is focusing on the whole person as a unique individual and offering choice and control, wherever possible, in every aspect of residents’ daily lives”
Maria Mulheran, General Manager
“… it’s not actually a nursing home, rather, it is a wonderful home filled with family, excitement, friendships and participation.”
Chloe Close, granddaughter of resident Kevin Close
Activities that will surprise and delight
A move to an aged care service doesn’t mean you have to give up your interests and hobbies. Our creative arts program brings great joy to many: there’s dancing, art therapy, a choir group (which visits and is visited by school groups) and a music group. Our annual art show is a popular event on our calendar, and offers residents the opportunity to exhibit their artwork alongside artists in the community.
