You’re in for a ‘night to remember’

Asia’s self-professed ‘Demon Chef’, Alvin Leung of Hong Kong. will be bringing his revolutionary ‘X-treme’ Chinese influence to this year’s Alzheimer’s Australia Victoria A Night to Remember fundraising dinner in September.

Alzheimer’s Australia National President, Ita Buttrose, will join guests as keynote speaker, at this year’s culinary feast.

“We are very excited to be welcoming Chef Alvin to Melbourne and Ms Buttrose to this unique event combining Melburnians’ passions for great food and giving to important causes,” Alzheimer’s Australia Vic chief executive, Maree McCabe said.

Chef Leung (pictured) will team up with a world class line-up of chefs who will develop the “unique” five course menu for the night. Chef Jeffrey Tan will also return and said he takes “great delight” in creating dishes for guests.

“All of us are 100% behind the great work done by Alzheimer’s Australia Vic and the Rotary Club of Manningham.

“This dinner really is an extraordinary event and an opportunity for all of Melbourne to dig deep and give to support people living with dementia and their carers,” he said.

Recently released figures by Alzheimer’s Australia Vic show there are 72,000 Victorians living with dementia with this figure projected to reach almost 250,000 by 2050.

According to Ms McCabe, as the peak body in Victoria, Alzheimer’s Australia Vic advocates to ensure the voices of the people it represents are “heard by the influencers and decision makers in our community.

“It is of vital importance to our clients that we actively seek support through events such as A Night to Remember. This allows us to provide essential services to support our community and plan for the future,” she said.

Tickets for the event on Saturday, 15 September, are now on sale and are $200 per person dinner. Former ABC local radio host, Derek Guille, will return as Master of Ceremonies and there will also be performances by young artists from Australian Music Events.

With the success of last year’s event, Rotary Club of Manningham, President Ian Goldsmith, said he hoped to see an even bigger response from the community in 2012.

The funds raised will be shared, with 75% of all monies raised to be donated to Alzheimer’s Australia Vic and 25% to support the Rotary Club of Manningham.

“The club aims to support not only the work of Alzheimer’s Australia Vic, but a variety of projects we are involved in within our local community and internationally,” Mr Goldsmith said.

A Night to Remember will be held on Saturday 15 September from 6.30pm at RACV City Club, 501 Bourke Street, Melbourne.
