A new respite day program, recently opened at Smithfield, South Australia, will enhance socialisation among older people who may be struggling with immobility or other health problems.

As an initiative of aged care provider, ECH, the program, known as Smithy’s Place, will offer a range of activities from arts and crafts to exercises and tailored outings.

“We aim to enhance the independence of our clients by helping them achieve their goals, share their talents, learn new skills and remain involved in their community,” ECH day program coordinator, Kelly Reardon, said.

Smithy’s Place is available to people aged 65 years or older, including people with memory loss.

The program was formerly known as James Martin Day Program and operated at Willaston, South Australia.

The new venue is now located next to ECH’s Smithfield Residential Care Centre.

For more information, contact Kelly Reardon on (08) 8254 2992 or Marianne Zanelli on 0458 226 571.
