World Cup motivates over 35’s to exercise
As the World Cup continues to take over the media, increased interest in the sport has been mirrored in the rise of men over 35 playing soccer in the United Kingdom (UK) and also in Australia.
There is however, concern for their stamina, injury and the quality of the facilities in which they play.
This week, FootballREPLAY was launched across the UK, specifically created for men who would love to return to football – but in a fun, friendly and relaxed way.
The program offers the same place, same time every week along with smaller pitches on which to play.
More than 10,000 players have been forecasted each week.
This program concentrates on fun rather than competitive football, and as everyone is ‘in the same boat’ the emphasis is placed more on style and skills rather than ‘blood and guts’ football, such as no sliding tackle; the aim being to minimise the risk of injury.
FootballREPLAY is working in partnership with the UK Men’s Health Forum who run National Men’s Health Week each year to help improve exercise levels among over 35’s.
The theme for this year’s National Men’s Health Week (14-20 June) was promoting the health benefits of physical activity and the longer term benefits of an active and healthy nation.
The programme aims to:
- Raise participation within a currently under-represented group
- Encourage more males aged 35 and over to take part regular activity
- Promote the benefits of staying active and being healthy.
