Women best for blood donations
Australian Red Cross Blood Service (ARCBS) data shows that female donors comprise just over 52% of the total blood donor population.
Women aged between 25-70 years account for almost 41% of all donors compared with 29% of the general population.
ARCBS research also indicates that one of the three top reasons for not giving blood is ‘no time’ yet these women are finding the time in their lives for activities they consider important.
It is estimated that one in three Australians will need blood or a blood product at some point in their lives, but only one in 30 Australians donate blood.
With demand for blood set to double within the next decade, Australia not only needs all current donors to donate more often but also for new donors to make a life long commitment.
