A doctor’s vision and passion for general practice has earned him the title of Royal Australian College of General Practitioner’s (RACGP) 2012 General Practitioner of the Year.
Dr Tony Lembke (pictured) was awarded with the title for his dedication to general practice and primary health care in Australia.
Dr Arn Sprogis, Australian Medicate Local Alliance chair, said Dr Lembke’s commitment to general practice continues to grow as he embarks on leading the AML Alliance’s General Practice Council as chair.
“Dr Lembke’s vision and passion for general practice will continue as he works in this role to develop, maintain and support the involvement of lead clinicians from the general practice setting in Medicare Locals,” Dr Sprogis said.
The AML Alliance supports RACGP’s acknowledgement of Dr Lembke’s skills and contribution to general practice and primary health care.
“Both organisations strive to advocate and support this frontline of medical care and this award recognising a colleague who is heavily involved in primary care and Medicare Locals reflects the positioning of general practice into the future,” Dr Sprogis said.
“The AML Alliance is committed to supporting Medicare Locals to become robust primary health care organisations with a central role in not only changing the health system for the better, but in improving integration and coordination between primary health care and hospitals, human services and aged care services.
“We will do this by working with GPs, nurses, allied health professionals and practice manager leaders from the general practice setting on the Council, as well as with other expert advisers on our soon to be established Primary Health Care Stakeholder Forum.”
