A recent survey, looking at how age affects workers’ feelings about their jobs, reveals young public servants are more likely to enjoy work because they like their immediate boss and colleagues, while older staff have job satisfaction from the actual work they do.

The Public Service Commission’s latest survey, published in this year’s State of the Service Report, reviews four age groups: Generation Y (29 years or younger), Generation X (30 to 44 years), baby boomers (45 to 64 years) and those 65 years and older who are a part of the group dubbed as the “lucky generation”.

The survey questions respondents about how they feel about their job, team and immediate supervisor and agency; as well as measuring workplace happiness and how much sick leave staff use.

The Canberra Times reports the youngest and older public servants are reportedly the most engaged in their work.

Generation Y are more engaged with their team and supervisor, while the “lucky” generation find their job and agency the most crucial factors.

What are the factors that engage you at work? Share your inspirations and thoughts on this survey by commenting in the box below.
