Western Australia (WA) State Mental Health Minister, Helen Morton, has welcomed the launch of an innovative project to reduce the impact of dementia among communities of the Indian sub-continent in WA.
The Sikh Association of WA (SAWA) dementia project aims to improve dementia literacy, encourage innovation in the dementia care sector, bridge social gaps and improve the lives of people with dementia by encouraging them to participate in social activities.
Mrs Morton said the crux of the project was to break down the stigma surrounding dementia through community education, while identifying promotional material that could be used in the community.
