Volunteers needed for Ethno-specific study

The Australian Catholic University (ACU) is urgently looking for volunteers for a pilot research study into the wellbeing of ethno-specific residents in residential aged care settings.

Volunteers must be from Chinese, Italian, Greek and Dutch backgrounds, and live in mainstream residential aged care services in Victoria and New South Wales.

The research project is conducted by the Australian Catholic University in collaboration with Ansell Strategic Pty Ltd and Spectrum Migrant Resource Centre. It will investigate the benefits of different services to residents’ wellbeing.

The focus is on ethno-specific aged care services in comparison to services provided to residents from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds within the mainstream Anglo-Australian aged care system. The aim is to inform future development and provision of quality aged care services.

This study will begin in July 2015 and will involve a survey in the residents’ own language. Participation will give very valuable information to aged care service providers, governments and families about the wellbeing of our elders who are from different ethno-specific backgrounds.

If you are interested in participating, contact Dr Zhu Chen at the Institute for Positive Psychology and Education on 02 9701 4638 or email zhu.chen@acu.edu.au.
