Victorian aged care provider, Villa Maria, will unveil its first luxury retirement living development tomorrow.

Victorian Premier, Ted Baillieu, will join Villa Maria Board members and staff, new residents, and family members and friends at the Camberwell Road site.

Athelstan Camberwell – a luxurious 66 apartment development – took about 15 months to construct, with the grand opening marking a significant milestone in Villa Maria’s history.

Villa Maria chief executive, Valerie Lyons, said: “We know Australia’s population is rapidly ageing. Now, and into the future, retirees want to settle in an environment that allows them to live active, fulfilling and engaging lives.

“With this in mind, Athelstan Camberwell will cater for a new demographic of retirees not previously supported by Villa Maria, who are seeking a greater level of independence, but also peace of mind, in their living choices.”

Residents will be able to connect through in-house activities such as a Bridge group, weekly cooking classes, wine and cheese tastings, and exercise classes.

Athelstan Camberwell manager, Anne Hulls, described the development’s point of difference as being the staff’s training in hospitality, including barista skills.

“Athelstan will offer residents, friends and families a premium in-house food and beverage service,” she adds.

“This development is simply all about the residents. Not only people’s safety and comfort, but also how best to ensure their retirement years will be the happiest of their lives: active, social.”
