Victoria’s Nurse-On-Call service celebrates its first year
Victorian families have embraced the Nurse-On-Call service with more than 380,000 calls received since it first started a year ago, Health Minister Bronwyn Pike says.
Ms Pike said nurses were taking an average of 1,100 calls a day from people with symptoms ranging from vomiting and fever, abdominal pain and discomfort, diarrhoea and chest pain.
“Nurse-On-Call helps Victorians decide if they need to attend hospital or a doctor straight away, whether their illness or condition could be treated by a GP the next day, or if they can manage it themselves.”
Ms Pike said 394 callers had received emergency treatment following advice from Nurse-On-Call staff, despite initially thinking they had a minor illness.
“This shows that Nurse-On-Call has the capacity to provide quality medical advice to patients,” Ms Pike said.
