Victorian the world’s oldest bodybuilder
Melbourne man, Ray Moon, at the age of almost 80 is believed to be the oldest competing bodybuilder in the world according to international record experts Guinness World Records.
Mr Moon, of Thornbury, has had polio, two minor strokes, open heart surgery, a pacemaker fitted, and hernia and prostate problems but has also managed to win four Victorian and Australian bodybuilding competitions after starting just five years ago.
“Given up, never won a race. I hit a hurdle a couple of years ago and then I walked past this gym. I thought I might get up here and get my head together and that’s how I started,” Mr Moon said. He does five strength and cardio training sessions a week including 4km on the treadmill and 45 minutes of weight training.
Mr Moon is now in training for his sixth national Amateur Body Building Association championships in May, and he’s keen to one day meet the world’s oldest female bodybuilder. “I bet she’s overseas though,” he said.
