Victorian seniors festival to be inspired in October

Posted
by DPS

The Victorian 2007 Seniors Festival this year has the theme of ‘be inspired’ and will include more than 1,000 events ranging from a film festival to concerts and tennis tournaments.

A week of festivities will begin on Sunday, 7 October at Docklands with a YMCA Seniors Walk. It will also feature the Telstra Meeting Place based at the Melbourne Town Hall in Swanston Street, where seniors will be encouraged to catch up with friends and have staff help with posting messages online to family.

Festival programs are available during September from Coles and Bi-Lo stores to enable senior citizens to plan the week’s activities with family and friends.

The Minister for Senior Victorians, Lisa Neville, said the festival celebrates its 25th Anniversary, “which is as much about looking to the aspirations of the next generation of seniors as it is about celebrating its proud history”.

Victorians with a Seniors card will be able to travel free on metropolitan public buses, trams, and trains from Sunday, 7 October to Sunday, 14 October. Free V/Line regional rail and coach travel will be available on Sunday, 7 October, Tuesday, 9 October to Thursday, 11 October and on Saturday, 13 October to Sunday, 14 October.
