Victorian Seniors Festival kicks off 5 – 12 October

The Victorian Seniors Festival for 2008 will be held from 5 to 12 October, with more than 1,000 free low cost events and free public transport across the state.

The festival opening carnival will be held at Federation Square on Sunday, 5 October, and the Melbourne Town Hall will be the centre for free tea and coffee and lunchtime entertainment, including a popular concert series headed by Orchestra Victoria.

Festival programs are available at any local library or Coles supermarket from early September, and travel will be free on V/Line rail and coach services from Tuesday 7 October, to Thursday 9 October, and Saturday 11 October, and Sunday, 12 October.

Travel bookings opened on 2 September and seniors are urged to book as soon as possible through staffed V/Line stations or V/Line ticket agents, metropolitan Premium stations or by phoning 136 196.

All Victorian Seniors Card holders will also be able to travel free on metropolitan buses, trains and trams and regional town bus services from 5 to 12 October.
