VicHealth funding to benefit groups involved with older Victorians
VicHealth’s $2 million annual funding to cultural organisations is to focus on groups which reach out to audiences who might not otherwise be able to engage in artistic or cultural activities, including socially isolated and older people.
Organisations to benefit from partnerships with other community organisations include groups such as the Geelong Performing Arts Centre. It uses local council and service clubs to identify socially isolated people using its Meals on Wheels program.
Volunteers drove a bus to collect patrons for a Musical Mornings program, and offered a low cost lunch to follow.
The involvement of individuals in the arts can help address health issues, a new report Promoting Mental Health Through Accessing the Arts, released by VicHealth, states.
