Vic volunteers needed to aid families this Christmas

Anglicare Victoria is calling for volunteers to help meet the demand of families in need this Christmas.

It says demand for emergency assistance in the form of food parcels and emergency housing has grown by more than 20% in the past year and this Christmas is expected to be the busiest ever.

Families who were already struggling to make ends meet are really starting to feel the squeeze from interest rate rises and the cost of petrol. The number of people who rely on emergency assistance has been growing steadily and resources will be stretched this year without additional help.

Anglicare Victoria has joined with Bunnings Warehouse to sell Anglicare angel merchandise and gift-wrap customer purchases for gold coin donations. Funds raised will help provide food hampers, clothing and gifts for thousands of disadvantaged children and bring some cheer and joy to families who would otherwise go without.

Anglicare needs to recruit more than 500 volunteers to help over the weekend of Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 December between 10am and 4pm. Contact Vanessa Flynn during business hours on 9412 6133 or email volunteer@anglicarevic.org.au for information.
