Vic private nursing home offers new model of dementia care
Markham Care has started work on a home in South Morang that will feature a new model of care for dementia sufferers.
Heritage Lakes, which is due to open in March 2008, will feature a 120 bed high and low care service for permanent residents, a 15 place respite care centre, and 46 independent living units.
The project, affiliated with the Hearthstone Foundation in Boston, USA, will provide high quality Alzheimer’s Disease care with a focus on the most recent research in activity programming and physical environment.
Staff will visit Boston later this month to be trained in the Boston model, while directors Derek and Cheryl Markham are seeking applications for new staff to join the project.
