Vic needs $470 million more spent on community care for aged
Without an increase of $470 million over the current $400 million spent
annually on funding home services, the frail aged would not be able to
remain independent in their homes, thus putting pressure on hospitals
and nursing homes.
A new report ‘Moving to the Centre Stage:community care for the next 10 years’ has made this recommendation.
The report was released by the Victorian Community Care Coalition and Aged and Community Care Victoria, with advice from former Kennett Health Minister ( and more recently Aged Care Complaints Resolution Commmissioner) Rob Knowles, the Council on the Ageing Victoria, Royal District Nursing Service, and Municipal Association of Victoria.
About 162,000 Victorians aged 65 and over access state-based aged care services which the report expects to grow to 222,000 by 2015.
