Vic aged care centres to merge
Two Wimmera-Mallee aged care facilities in Victoria will merge to save one of them from closure. ABC On line reported that St Arnaud’s Coates Hostel and Swan Hill-based Alcheringa will merge on 1 September.
Alcheringa’s chief executive officer, Anne Raugh, says Coates has been in serious financial trouble for two years, and would face closure by the end of July. She says Coates’ 29 staff and 27 residents will remain in St Arnaud, and the two facilities will share administrative and compliance costs.
“If Coates had happened to close, there would have been enormous impact on that community, and residents having to move out of that area, and financially probably loss of $2 million to the community of St Arnaud,” she said.
