Veteran’s Affairs to check haemorrhoids link to war service

The Repatriation Medical Authority has called for submissions from
doctors, veterans and sufferers on ‘whether haemorrhoids (piles) or
deaths from haemorrhoids may be war-caused, defence-caused, a service injury, a service disease or a service death’.

Under the Veterans Entitlements Act, the Authority examines medical and scientific evidence about diseases and conditions, and creates statements of principles for assessing pension claims.

The Authority is also enquiring into bronchiectasis, Addison’s Disease,
non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, osteoarthritis and acute stress disorder.
