Trusted care provider Annecto to close its doors — what now for aged care clients?

In a major shake-up for the aged care and disability support sector, Annecto has announced it will cease operations from July 31, 2025, leaving thousands of clients across Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and the ACT searching for alternative services.

Annecto, a not-for-profit organisation, has been a trusted provider of home care, case management and aged care support for decades. It also delivers services to people living with disability through the NDIS. However, in a statement released this week, the organisation confirmed that increasing financial pressures and workforce challenges have made it unsustainable to continue.

What aged care services does Annecto provide?

Annecto is known for its focus on person-centred support, offering a range of services that help older people live independently at home. This includes:

  • Home Care Packages;
  • Commonwealth Home Support Programme services;
  • social support and well-being programs;
  • case management and care coordination;
  • culturally sensitive services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients and CALD communities.

For many older Australians and their families, Annecto has been more than just a service provider — it’s been a support network and lifeline.

What happens now — and what should clients do?

Annecto has stated that it is working with the Federal Government and relevant departments to support a ‘safe and coordinated transition’ for all clients. However, with less than two months until services stop, many are now urgently needing to find a new provider.

If you or your loved one receives aged care services from Annecto, here’s what to do…

  1. Expect direct communication
    Annecto has begun contacting clients directly. If you haven’t received information yet, reach out to your local office or support worker to confirm your transition plan.

  2. Act early to explore new providers
    Waiting lists can grow quickly when a major provider closes. Start looking for a new aged care provider now, even if you’re unsure of your exact transition timeline.

  3. Use a trusted directory to compare providers
    The Aged Care Guide is a reliable tool to search, compare and contact aged care providers in your area. Whether you’re looking for a new Home Care Package provider or support through CHSP, you can find options based on location, services offered, language support and more.

  4. Seek help if you’re unsure
    If the transition process feels overwhelming, organisations like My Aged Care or independent placement services can assist in navigating your options and securing continued care.

Looking ahead

Annecto’s closure is yet another signal of the growing pressure on community-based aged care providers. With aged care reforms still underway and providers grappling with workforce shortages and rising costs, clients are being urged to stay informed and proactive about their care options.

For those affected, the coming weeks will be challenging, but support is available. Acting early and using tools like the Aged Care Guide can help ensure continuity of care and a smoother transition.

The Annecto team are here to support customers throughout this transition. If you would like additional information or have a question, please contact the team on 1300 530 705 or via email at customersupport@annecto.org.au.
