Treasurer to officially open new facility

Parkview, a new residential facility by Wesley Mission Brisbane, is being officially opened by Federal Treasurer, Wayne Swan, and Reverend Bruce Johnson, Moderator of the Queensland Synod – Uniting Church in Australia tomorrow.

The facility at Wheller Gardens Chermside in Queensland, incorporates design recommendations of the residents who have come to live there.

Recommendations for the construction of Parkview were a standing agenda item on the monthly residents meetings for three years prior to building commencing. The residents’ design ideas have been incorporated into the new building.

Stage one was built over 19 months and provides extra service accommodation for 72 residents. Residents of the now demolished St John’s facility were relocated into Parkview in May this year.

“The design team, guided by continuous feedback from residents, felt passionate about ensuring the physical environment at Parkview supported a model of care which maximised each resident’s quality of life. There is no doubt they have achieved this,” said Wesley Mission Brisbane director of residential aged care, Peter Sydes.

A day therapy centre is also part of this first stage. Stage two will also house 72 residents, with completion expected in June 2010. Once completed Wesley Mission Brisbane will have invested $39 Million in the construction and fit-out of Parkview.
