The aged care sector is being encouraged to comment on draft guidelines which will promote more transparency in accommodation pricing arrangements and greater investment in the sector.

Minister for Mental Health and Ageing, Senator Jacinta Collins, has released draft guidelines and legislation relating to the government’s policy on accommodation payments and significant refurbishment arrangements for residential aged care.

These documents will inform the staged implementation of changes under the Living Longer. Living Better reforms which take full effect from 1 July 2014.

Senator Collins encourages the sector to provide comment about the implementation arrangements in the following consultation documents.

In relation to accommodation payments:

Exposure Draft Fees and Payments Principles 2013;

Exposure Draft Aged Care (Maximum Accommodation Payment Amount) Determination 2013; and

Draft Accommodation Pricing Guidelines.

In relation to the significant refurbishment of a residential aged care facility:

Exposure Draft Subsidy Principles 2013; and

Draft Guide to the Significant Refurbishment of Residential Aged Care Services (Significant Refurbishment Guidelines).

The consultation documents are available from the Living Longer. Living Better website. Comments should be emailed to FFBConsultation@health.gov.au by Tuesday, 3 September 2013.
