Toothbrushes a health hazard in bathrooms
Millions of Australians brush their teeth, rinse off their toothbrushes and store them in the open in the bathroom. With every flush from the toilet, germs are propelled into the air and can land directly on the toothbrushes.
Most people are aware of the importance of dentists sterilising instruments, so it is ironic that the standards drop off considerably regarding the cleanliness of the personal toothbrush.
There is now extensive medical evidence showing that toothbrushes may be associated with a wide range of everyday and more serious health risks, from transmission of colds and flu between family members to systemic, chronic inflammation that has been strongly linked to heart disease, stroke and diabetes.
A US Researcher from the University of Wisconsin has designed a World patented Germ Terminator toothbrush sanitizer, utilising dental sterilising techniques, which will soon be available in Australia.
